We don’t want easier lives
We just
Want to play
By the same game
Even the same rules
Given the same tools
Attend the same prestigious schools
Given opportunities
To build the same wealth
Reside in towns where
We all have
The same quality
Of health
We want the
same roads
same quality of homes
Access to the
Same cheat codes
Because try harder
isn’t getting
Any further in
A system
That wasn’t made
For me

Telling us that This is
Freedom and
Ignoring us when
We have questions
is beyond corny

We don’t want easier lives
We just
Want to come home alive
Maybe have
The opportunity to come off boring
Black people don’t want to be the next Channel 11 Story
How is that we’re 13 percent of the general population
But we make up 38 percent of
mass incarceration
OH no! The numbers are skewed
Black people aren’t making it hard on themselves
Someone’s controlling the narrative for views
It’s exhausting to keep the negative subdued
But what producer, director, actor, writer is keeping this hell hole of a show renewed
I’d like to cancel my subscription
Because it feels like America isn’t getting any better with its season after season of creating a state of black afflictions
