Let’s Stop Trying to Pretend the Pandemic Away

“My kid doesn’t have a bus.”

“My food is taking too long.”

“My furniture order won’t be here until next year.”

“We need you to work longer hours.”

Why are we complaining as if things were normal? America out here trying to pretend a pandemic away and that’s not how things work. That’s not how any of this works.

The United States seems to be easing up on restrictions, dealing with catastrophic vaccine hesitancy, and still debating on rather masks work. It’s not the pandemic of the unvaccinated anymore it’s the pandemic of the ignorant.

If you’re overwhelmed and just taking it day by day, you’re not alone. I don’t know why people are putting pre-pandemic expectations on things when we’re in the midst of so many crises at once. We shouldn’t expect much from others that we wouldn’t give ourselves. Give yourself and others some grace especially since the government doesn’t seem to care. There’s no reason we should be expected to work so hard to keep the economy together when we’re barely keeping ourselves together.

No matter how hard we try we can’t pretend a pandemic away until we deal with the buffet of issues that we refuse to acknowledge.

Instead of trying so hard to go back to normal, America should take a breather and find a way to make things better as the old way was clearly not working. Peak pandemic places housed the homeless, the government gave people money to survive, and even student loans were paused to aid the burden of millions of Americans. Why the heck weren’t these things in place already if it was an option all along? The pandemic is giving us a moment to fix the mistakes of our past but a look in history proves we are destined to repeat history because, America.

We can do better, we should do better, and hopefully one day we’ll get there soon.

Shout out to the pandemic for amplifying all the crises that already existed especially since the American Economy was only being held together by gum and duct tape.

Please stop,” hope all is well” in emails, because no one is well. They’re just making it day by day.”

If you’re not okay it’s fine. Especially during a pandemic you are not expected to be okay all of the time.
