Makeup has never been my thing because the little bit of sleep I do get doesn’t need to interfere with my morning routine. I get up at 6:30 and I’m out the door by 6:45. I’ve turned it into a How late can I wake up and still be on time, game. Although I know very little about the cosmetic world I do have a makeup bag which is mostly lip-gloss and lipstick, a mascara (for when I’m feeling daring) an eyeliner (for when I find someone to do it for me), and a container of foundation that I haven’t used since the photo shoot it was necessary for. One thing I do love though is lipstick. As a kid, I used to fall asleep with glossy lips and that was just the start of my obsession.
As I got older and realized my lashes were way too long to totally master eyeliner and mascara and the older I get, the more I’m willing to pay on my journey to finding the perfect lippie. I know my addiction was real when I purchased a lipstick holder. Most of them are from the same brands but they all have their own pros and cons.
Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip: After waiting ever so patiently, I received my Beauty Bakerie Lip Whip. The packaging alone was enough to excite me. It made me kind of mad that I bought a lipstick holder because this box is perfect for my collection. Being that Lip Whips are $20 I was super skeptical about it being worth it. I purchased Raspberry Tiramisu and it wasn’t as dark as I wanted it to be. On the model, it looked deeper but I’m used to that issue. It still looked great and I got many compliments on the shade. The application felt a little weird but after two coats I fell in like with it. I let it dry for a few seconds and fell in love. After kissing my hand and taking a sip of water I felt like I had a secret no one knew about. This is the bomb! I brought the remover so removing it was an effing breeze. There was no scrubbing or anything. It was gentle. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a deeper darker red to fall in love with.
Ruby Kisses in Dark Plum Scene
Ruby Kisses by Kiss: Dark lipsticks are a breath of fresh air and dark matte lipsticks give me life! I stumbled upon this the last time I went to a hair store (now I shop online) and I was afraid because of the price being so cheap. I just assumed this lipstick was going to be drying and not the right shade and I was pleasantly surprised. Uhh can you say awesome? I loved the price and shade so much I brought three of them in the shade
Colourpop: Being an avid Instagrammer I couldn’t avoid Colourpop if I tried. Whoever is the lead in their marketing team needs a raise because they’re not in stores and I’ve never seen an ad for them. Colourpop proves word of mouth is one heck of a tool. It’s super cheap! For $6 each, I felt okay with ordering four at once and if you ask me they feel expensive and look the part too. My favorites are their lightweight Satin Lip (Prim) and their Ultra Matte (LAX). I actually wish they were smudge proof and long lasting because I swear by these. They’re my everyday lippies. Satin Lip is super moisturizing and vibrant and Ultra Matte is a bit drying so I put Chapstick under it most of the time. When I don’t it looks fine but feels dry. I prefer LAX. Both aren’t kiss proof but they stay on forever…I’ve woke up with Colourpop I thought I wiped off, on my pillow. At $6 a pop, I gotta have ‘em all.
Wet N Wild: Wet N Wild is like everyone’s first lipstick unless you’re balling out of control. My first one was Cherry Bomb, fell in love with that and then I purchased Vamp it Up. Mix the two of them for a perfect shade of burgundy. It’s a bit drying so I use Chapstick as a base. For $2 each I have no complaints beyond the packaging being super frail. The caps are vulnerable to cracking.
Katy Kat Lip Matte: I stumbled upon this because I was looking for Impress Nails in the beauty aisle and in passing I noticed this lipstick in Maroon Meow. It’s moisturizing, I love the color and it has a surprising perfume smell to it. I wasn’t shocked to discover this was a Covergirl collaboration because they’ve been perfecting their formula for years. I’ll definitely have to grab some more shades in this collection.
All in my all, my go to lipstick is most definitely Colourpop. It’s cheap, I love the shades, and it feels expensive. I get a lot of compliments on my Colourpop Collection. It makes me feel like a star and I can’t wait to see what else they come out with. What’s your favorite lipstick?
